A COVID-19 vaccine is not currently a requirement for students to return to face-to-face classes for term two.
This assurance from Chief Education Officer, Dr Ramona Archer-Bradshaw, as she fielded questions from parents on CBC TV 8’s Face It And Fix It.
Yesterday, Dr Archer-Bradshaw revealed officials are exploring several possibilities for when school resumes on January 10, including a return to the classroom.
However, advice from health officials as well as the availability of school plants, some of which are being used as isolation facilities, are all factors to be considered.
Dr Archer-Bradshaw did however disclose that just over 10 thousand of the 21 thousand eligible students have been vaccinated.
As for members of staff at schools, just over 50 per cent at the primary level have been vaccinated, but officials are still trying to ascertain what that figure is at the secondary level.
The Chief Education Officer also spoke about the protocols that would be in place, including mask wearing and the installation of sanitisation stations in all classrooms.
