Today marks the 20th anniversary of the September 11th attacks.
On that day in 2001, two hijacked commercial airlines were flown into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Centre in Lower Manhattan, another into the Pentagon in Virginia, while the fourth meant to target Washington, DC, crashed in a Pennsylvania field after passengers fought back.
Close to 3000 people died on that day, and thousands more were injured or later developed illnesses connected to the attacks, including firefighters who had worked in toxic debris.
Memorial services at Ground Zero in New York and the other crash sites are ongoing in honour of the victims.
