Portugal has introduced a law that makes it illegal for employers to contact workers outside of office hours.
The new law stipulates that employers must respect the privacy of workers, their working hours, and time of rest and repose with family.
The rule is part of legislation regulating working from home, and violation constitutes a serious offence.
The new law also states that employers are responsible for providing workers with the appropriate tools to do their jobs remotely and should reimburse workers for any additional expenses.
This includes any increase in bills, such as electricity and gas, which an employee might incur while working from home.
The law was passed by the Portuguese parliament late last week.
