Education Minister calls for changes at CXC

November 24th, 2021

Amid concerns about exam management by the Caribbean Examinations Council, Minister of Education, Technological and Vocational Training, Santia Bradshaw, is suggesting changes to the organization.

She was speaking at the CXC’s Ministerial Summit on Educational Assessment.

Minister Bradshaw wants deeper monitoring and evaluation of the Council.

She’s embraced a call by parents to have CXC regulated by an external body.

While urging the Council to take the COVID-19 pandemic into account when making decisions, Minister Bradshaw told the audience there is a need to revise the content on the curriculum to address mental health challenges and difficulties in adapting to the online environment.

She also says assessment of students can be enhanced to ensure fairness.

Minister Bradshaw acknowledged some changes would take time and suggested in the meantime, CXC invest in a platform to address concerns by students and parents, which she says will enhance stakeholder satisfaction and improved technology.
