Met Office monitoring tropical wave and associated area of low pressure

September 16th, 2021

The Barbados Meteorological Service is closely monitoring a tropical wave and an associated area of low pressure located near 37W south of 17N, or about 2460km (1530 miles) east of Barbados at 11:00 a.m.

However, no watches or warning are currently in effect for this feature.

The Met Office says activity associated with the weather feature have become less organised over the past 6 hours, but conditions are expected to become more favorable for development during the next few days as the system moves westward to west-northwestward.

Current model guidance indicates that the system will pass well north of Barbados sometime early next week. Therefore, this system does not pose any direct threat to the island, however, the public is encouraged to continue monitoring updates.

The Met Office will issue its next update at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 17th, 2021 or sooner if conditions warrant.
