No impact on value of Barbadian dollar

September 3rd, 2021

The move to republican status will have no bearing on the value of the Barbados dollar.

This assertion from Attorney General, Dale Marshall, as he fielded questions during a virtual meeting with the diaspora in the United States last night.

Mr. Marshall says there will however be some fiscal impact domestically, as some institutions such as the Royal Barbados Police Force and Her Majesty’s Prisons will be renamed.

He says this will create a need for changes to letterheads and the crowns worn on the uniforms of gazetted officers.

During the meeting, the Attorney General revealed that the country will continue to be called Barbados and not the Republic of Barbados after the move on November 30th this year.

Mr. Marshall says Barbados intends to remain a member of the Commonwealth and other international agencies after becoming a republic.

He also sought to explain the powers a non-executive President would have.
