Private sector hopes no lockdown policy continues

September 21st, 2021

Chairman of the Barbados Private Sector Association, Edward Clarke believes it will take about 10 years for Barbados to recover economically, if there’s another shutdown due to COVID-19.

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley has reiterated another lockdown is not on the cards.

Mr. Clarke, who was the guest on CBC TV8’s programme ‘One on One’ by the Public Affairs Department, is hoping that plan remains in place.

He says a recovery will take some time, as the country has lost close to 20% of gross domestic product.

With the country open for business, Mr. Clarke suggests Barbados invest in the digital market, as there’s a need to find opportunities to grow and diversify the economy.
