Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley has extended sincere condolences to the family of Sir James Mitchell and the government and people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
This following his passing today at the age of 90.
In an official statement Prime Minister Mottley heralded Sir James as a distinguished Caribbean statesman who served the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines well as a Member of Parliament, Premier and Prime Minister.
She says Sir James was an integral part of the regional leadership that did so much to shape the Caribbean as we know it today.
Prime Minister Mottley says even though it has been more than three decades since Sir James contested his last election, he remained a towering figure in the affairs of the eastern and southern Caribbean.
Ms. Mottley says both she and Sir James shared a passion for the Caribbean Sea and together recognised that with the right vision it was more of a cord that bound the region together than a gulf that separated us.
