UPDATE: Police capture man after car chase

September 14, 2021

Police have provided an update on a car chase that occurred in St George on Monday.

Public relations office with the Force, Acting Inspector Rodney Inniss, said that the incident began around 3:05 pm yesterday, along Constant Road, St George.

He said that:

Members of the Major Crime Unit assisted by other personnel were acting on information and had reason to signal the driver of a motor vehicle to stop by use of the siren.  Having signalled the vehicle to stop the driver refused and engaged the police in a pursuit as he sped away through traffic towards the Dash Valley, St George area. The chase continued and the driver lost control and crashed his vehicle in a corner along the said roadway.

He existed the vehicle and ran off, he was chased and was holding a firearm as he ran. Police ordered him to drop the firearm he didn’t and was engaged by the police. He then dropped the firearm and ran away; he was later captured and arrested, one firearm and a number of rounds of ammunition were recovered from the scene. No injuries were sustained by the police, the suspect or any member of the public.

Investigations into this incident are ongoing.
