It came down to the final ball, and in the end the West Indies prevailed over Bangladesh to claim their first win of the ICC T20 World Cup.

In usual nail-biting form, the Windies took the three-run win in Sharjah this morning.

Needing 143 to win, Bangladesh required 13 from the final over – bowled by Andre Russell.

The equation came down to four needed from the final delivery, but a maiden ball was delivered, restricting them to 139 for five.

Liton Das made 44, while Captain Mahmudullah ended unbeaten on 31.

Sent into bat the Windies struggled as they have all tournament but were able to move from 48 for three in 10 overs to 142 for seven, thanks to Player of the Match Nicholas Pooran’s 40 and 39 from debutant Roston Chase. Jason Holder chipped in with 15 vital runs.

Shoriful Islam took two for 20 and Mahedi Hasan two for 27.

The victory moves West Indies to fifth in Group One alongside Sri Lanka and South Africa – all on two points, with leaders England and Australia both on four points.
