Two career public servants and a church leader are among nine Barbadians awarded in the 2018 Queen's New Year’s honours list.
The outstanding Barbadians recognised represent diverse areas from the public service and trade union movement to religion, the fire service and more.
Three people have been awarded the Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
Among them is former permanent secretary Charles Smith, whose close to forty years of service in the public sector earned him the award.
He's thankful and humbled by the honour.
The other CBE awardees are former permanent secretary Shirley Farnum, recognised for her service in the public sector and Reverend Dr. Orlando Seale, for his contribution to religious education.
The Officer of the Order of the British Empire was also conferred on three people.
They are president general of the Barbados Workers Union Linda Brooks, president of the Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations of Barbados Cedric Murrell and Carlton O'Brian Hinds for his contribution to the catering industry.
Two former fire chiefs and an educator have been awarded Membership of the Order of the British Empire.
The retired fire service heads are Velmo Cadogan and Clifford Clarke, while the educator is Alvin Carter.
