Two career public servants and a church leader are among nine Barbadians awarded in the 2018 Queen's New Year’s honours list.

The outstanding Barbadians recognised represent diverse areas from the public service and trade union movement to religion, the fire service and more.

Three people have been awarded the Commander of the Order of the British Empire.

Among them is former permanent secretary Charles Smith, whose close to forty years of service in the public sector earned him the award.

He's thankful and humbled by the honour.
