Government's move to increase the number of people on the National Insurance Scheme's board is being questioned by the opposition.

The matter has been raised during parliamentary debate on the National Insurance and Social Security Amendment Bill 2017.

Finance Minister Christopher Sinckler says the intention is simply to add a representative from the Ministry of Labour, under whose portfolio the NIS now falls.

However, MP for St. James Central, Kerrie Symmonds, suggests the change is to increase government's influence on the board.
