Wicketkeeper Anthony Bramble’s maiden first class hundred rescued leaders Guyana Jaguars on the opening day of their day/night seventh round match against Leeward Islands Hurricanes.
The right-hander ended unbeaten on 116, an innings that was the cornerstone of Jaguars’ 276 for eight in their first innings at the National Stadium on Thursday night.
Arriving with his side tottering on 41 for four, Bramble anchored three key stands across all three session, to mitigate against a Jaguars complete collapse.
First, he put on 118 for the fifth wicket with veteran left-hander Shiv Chanderpaul who scored 51, added 63 for the seventh wicket with Sherfane Rutherford (23) before posting a further 35 for the eighth wicket with Romario Shepherd (22).
All told, Bramble faced 196 balls and counted 15 fours and three sixes.
Chanderpaul, who chalked up his 141st first class half-century, struck six fours and two sixes off 118 balls.
Off-spinner Rahkeem Cornwall was the best bowler with three for 80.
The second day of the contest resumes at 2 pm on Friday.
