Concern About Aggressive Behaviour At Polyclinic

The Ministry of Health and Wellness is concerned about aggressive and threatening behaviour being exhibited by some members of the public within the public healthcare system.

Nurses at the Winston Scott Polyclinic walked off the job today citing safety concerns for staff and patients. This followed the second incident at the polyclinic in two weeks.

As a consequence, it became necessary to suspend services at the polyclinic early today in order to assess the situation. The polyclinic will remain closed to the public tomorrow, Thursday, March 21. However, staff are asked to report at 11:00 a.m. for a staff meeting to address the issue.

Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Kenneth George, stated that the safety of staff and patients was paramount, and emphasized that the Ministry had a “no tolerance stance” in respect of “bad and lawless behaviour.” He said that the Ministry will be putting in place whatever measures were necessary to safeguard both staff and patients.
