Buju’s murder cry

“ What is going on in Trinidad ? All this murder. Not just regular murder but butcher shop murder.”

The question was asked by Jamaican reggae superstar Buju Banton (Mark Myrie) while on stage before thousands at his “I am Legend” concert at the Queen’s Park Savannah in Port of Spain on Easter Sunday night.

“Youths watch yuhself otherwise yuh will end up like manure under a tree that bears fruit that nobody wants,” he said .

Buju also said in reference to the police search of his Hilton hotel room following a ganja tip-off which yielded nothing: “I have been coming to Trinidad for so many years. I have been coming when the Black man was in power and when the Indian was in power. Who gave the order?”

MONE hundred and fifty-seven murders have been committed for the year so far in Trinidad and Tobago, just eight fewer than those recorded for the corresponding period last year.

The country’s alert state was moved from amber to red by Police Commissioner Gary Griffith last Friday due to a recent increase in murders, the Buju Banton concert and the Easter long weekend. However , the criminal element still managed to run rampant, snuffing out the lives of at least nine people between Saturday and yesterday morning.
