Sick out continues at CXC

For a second day, employees of the Caribbean Examinations Council are expected to stage a sick-out.

CBC understands that almost 95 percent of staff members, most of whom are unionised, have been calling in sick since Wednesday, in protest of a slew of changes being executed by management.

A well informed source tells CBC management has started a restructuring process which involves cutting staff without concluding discussions with the Barbados Workers’ Union.

CBC spoke with Director of Corporate Affairs at the CXC, Sharon Armstrong-Mullah, who says management hasn’t been notified of any action.

Asked whether they were concerned about a possible impact on the release of the common entrance examinaton results or other exams, Ms. Armstrong-mullah said “no, so far no concerns in that area”.
