The introduction of data protection legislation In Barbados is long overdue.
That’s according to Bartlett Morgan, an associate of Lex Caribbean Attorneys at Law.
Mr. Morgan made the comment during his presentation yesterday to the Joint Select Committee on the Data Protection Bill 2019, in the upper house.
He explains that the introduction of comprehensive data protection legislation, is a stipulation of the Economic Partnership Agreement which Barbados signed on to over a decade ago.
Mr. Morgan has however taken issue with several aspects of the bill in its current state.
For instance, he says there’s no provision for compensation for data subjects whose rights are breached.
