The 40th Regular meeting of the Conference of Caricom Heads of Government opens in St Lucia Wednesday.

The meeting will be held under the chairmanship of St Lucia’s Prime Minister Allen Chastenet.

Outgoing Chairman, Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris of St Kitts and Nevis and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres are among the speakers set to address the opening ceremony.

High on the agenda, the implementation of a functioning Caricom Single Market and Economy.

Caribbean leaders are expected to finalise a declaration approved at a meeting in Trinidad and Tobago last year.

The heads will also discuss the strengthening of the facilitation of the existing skilled nationals, as well as expanding the category to include agricultural workers, cosmetologists and security guards among others.

Caricom Secretary General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque says Caribbean states still lag behind in this area.
