UWI to honour outstanding Barbadians

Two outstanding Barbadians are among three people being honoured by the University of the West Indies.

They are lyrical master Stedson “Red Plastic Bag” Wiltshire and internet pioneer, Alan Emtage.

RPB, who has been in the entertainment business for almost four decades, will be conferred a Doctor of Letters by the University of the West Indies, for his contribution to entertainment.

The other Barbadian, Mr. Emtage, will receive a Doctor of Science, for his sterling commitment to scientific invention.

He wrote the code which helped to open our internet universe and is a founding member of the Internet Society.

Mr Emtage is also the only Caribbean person and person of African descent to be inducted into the internet hall of fame.

The third honouree is Trinidadian Attorney-at-Law Maxine Williams, who is currently the global head of diversity at Facebook.

She will be conferred a Doctor of Law for leadership.
