An early morning accident has claimed the life of an employee of the Bridgetown Port.
CBC understands the man was killed when a container fell on him.
The incident happened about 5:50 this morning.
In a statement, the Port confirmed the incident occurred during a cargo vessel operation.
Manager of Business Development & Corporate Communications, Jane Brome, says the organisation is devastated at the loss, as the safety of employees is always the primary priority.
According to the release, the victim’s family has been contacted and counselling is being provided for employees.
As a result of the incident, the Port will remain closed for business today.
The Port will open tomorrow, Saturday, September 30, 2023 for the delivery of containers only during the period of 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
