Strike action averted at UWI

Strike action at the University of the West Indies has been averted following a meeting between officials from that institution and the Barbados Workers’ Union.

BWU General Secretary Senator Toni Moore says while they have been grappling with a number of matters for a while, an issue over the promotion of a staff member was the final straw which almost led to industrial action on Thursday.

Senator Moore says following this most recent issue, they wrote to the university signalling the intention for strike action.

They were however able to meet with UWI officials Thursday for just under two hours, and strike action was averted.
