Barbadians are being encouraged to learn as much as they can about Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
This plea from President of the Barbados Alzheimer’s Association Pamelia Brereton during a service at the St. Luke’s Anglican Church to mark World Alzheimer’s Month.
The theme for the month is Let’s Talk About Dementia.
Ms. Brereton notes while current statistics are not available, in 2014, there were just over four thousand people in Barbados with dementia.
She says public knowledge and training are important, so people can effectively care for and support those affected.
Meanwhile, Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs Cynthia Forde also advocates for building awareness of the disease, saying few understand it.
