Importing and exporting goods is vital to business in Barbados and the new Comptroller of Customs Owen Holder is promising to do all in his power to make the customs department work as efficiently as possible.
He gave the commitment during his featured address at the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s luncheon at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre this Tuesday afternoon.
Mr. Holder says while they are still sorting out some of the issues with the new ASYCUDA World system, it is up and performing well.
The Comptroller of Customs says he is well aware of the complaints coming from the business community as well as the average Barbadian regarding hindrances at both the sea and airports.
He says outside of regular delays some of them relate to customs officers.
Mr. Holder says he wants to implement an ASYCUDA performance system.
Mr. Holder says he is looking at changing the entire model at Customs which has been in place since 1986.
He says the entire process will be automated.
