Sprinter Mario Burke will be the first athlete out the blocks for Barbados at the World Championships Friday in Doha, Qatar.
Burke, who is part of a four member contingent representing this country, will be competing in round one of the heats of the men’s 100 meters from 11:05am Barbados time.
The other athletes in the squad are quarter-miler Sade Williams, 110 meter hurdler Shane Braithwaite and 400 meter hurdler Tia-Adana Belle.
Speaking to CBC Sports after a training session, coach Alwyn Babb said the heat factor will take some getting use to but the team is in high spirits.
On current form, Pan AM gold medalist Shane Brathwaite will be aiming for a podium finish in the 110 meter hurdles, and coach Babb said he is working hard to achieve that goal.
CBC TV8 will have live coverage of the championships from 9:30am Friday, beginning with the men’s long jump, followed by the men’s 100 metres prelims at 9:35.
