Different style of leadership is needed says former PM

There’s a suggestion Barbados and other countries in the region will require a new type of leadership to navigate the challenges which they face.

Former Prime Minister, Professor Owen Arthur, believes many countries are trapped in a development model dependent on trade preferences, grant aid and debt.

However, he says this is no longer sustainable, and intellectual leadership is needed to navigate the transition.

Professor Arthur believes a new book written by Professor Jamal Khan and Dr. Wayne Charles-Soverall details how this can be achieved.

He expressed the view during the launch of the book entitled “Empowering Management” at the University of the West Indies’ Sidney Martin Library.

Professor Arthur also expressed a desire to see the University transformed from just an institution of higher learning to a money-making enterprise.
