Start-up costs could be significant

A Leading university academic and acclaimed scientist of global standing is suggesting that it could cost government well over five million Barbados dollars to kick start the local medicinal cannabis industry.

Professor Leonard O’Garro who is the director of the UWI Cavehill Centre for Food Security and Entrepreneurship, provided the estimates during a recent public lecture.

Speaking on the topic, ‘Medicinal cannabis – going after the economic high or crashing low’, Professor O’Garro provided the estimates and pointers in his speech.

While the initial inputs may appear pricey, Professor O’Garro says there are many benefits to be reaped such as employment for citizens and high yields from the crop.
