Government may sell LESC to Ross University

Tourism Minister Kerrie Symmonds has hinted that government may be inclined to consider giving Ross University the option of acquiring the entire Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre property for their further development and expansion over the long term.

He says such a move has been initially discussed, as a way of significantly increasing the island’s capacity to host major conferences, where thousands or tens of thousands of people want to attend.

Minister Symmonds says while the LESC is perhaps the single largest conference facility on island, it still does not have the capacity to accommodate significantly large delegations from around the globe who may want to hold their conferences here.

He says any move in the future to give Ross that option would therefore involve a larger plan to establish a newer and larger conference facility that has the capacity to generate significant revenue for the island.
