US officials visit Energy minister

The current status of the energy and water sectors in Barbados was discussed when U.S Ambassador to Barbados, Linda Taglialatela, paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Energy and Water Resources, Wilfred Abrahams.

Ambassador Taglialatela and Economic/Commercial Officer, Rachel Meyers, were informed of the current situation facing both sectors by Minister Abrahams and Permanent Secretary, Francine Blackman.

The two US officials were also briefed about the current and upcoming projects of the Barbados Water Authority, including the “Find All Fix All” mains repair programme, and efforts to install water saving devices, such as ‘shut-off’ taps in government buildings.

Minister Abrahams says the main objectives of his ministry going forward, besides the goal of becoming 100 per cent carbon neutral by 2030, are to provide assistance for those less fortunate to acquire water saving devices in their homes and to improve the generation capacity at all of the 42 pumping stations across the island.
