Zane Maloney on Saturday night was named the 2019 National Sports Council’s Sports Personality of the Year.
The announcement was made by NSC chairman Mac Fingall during the awards ceremony and dinner at the Willdey Gymnasium.
The CHairman noted that it was the first time the winner was chosen via an online poll on social media.
16-year-old Maloney created history by becoming the first person from the Caribbean to win the British Formula 4 title. He defeated West Indies Test captain Jason Holder, who was ranked No.1 in the ICC Test allrounder rankings for most of 2019 by a small margin.
Maloney received 423 votes and Holder 420.
