Government has moved to secure more than half a million dollars for the purchase of an ice-machine for the Bridgetown Fisheries complex.
Minister of Maritime Affairs and the Blue Economy Kirk Humphrey made the announcement while speaking on a resolution to grant a supplemental in the sum of five hundred and forty-four thousand dollars from the consolidated fund for this purpose.
He has promised that money for the purchase of a machine for the other major markets at Oistins and Speightstown will be included in the estimates for this financial year.
Mr. Humphrey says his Ministry will be undertaking a comprehensive review of the entire fishing legislation before the end of the year.
He also revealed that by March, government will be correcting a major issue affecting fishermen.
