Yo-Yo system not best for cricket selection

The current yo-yo fitness test which is used by Cricket West Indies as part of its selection process wasn’t designed for that purpose.

This is the view of the academic co-ordinator for sports sciences at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill, Dr. Rudolph Alleyne.

His comments came after the exclusion of Evin Lewis and Shimron Hetmyer from the tour of Sri Lanka for the ODI series after they failed to meet the minimum fitness standard set by CWI.

Speaking on Qfm’s Let’s Talk About call-in radio programme, Dr. Alleyne said the originator of the system had warned sporting teams against using the yo-yo system in this regard.

He agreed that despite that fact a minimum fitness standard should still be set.
