Assurance assemblies will be free of political interference

An appeal to authorities to ensure the proposed Peoples assemblies are free from interference from members of parliament.

This was one of the suggestions of Resident Heather Springer, at Wednesday’s Thorne Commission on Local Governance town hall meeting at the Alleyne School in St. Andrew.

The Commission which is the brainchild of Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley is seen as a first step to the establishment of community-based, people participatory governance structures.

Barbados Ambassador to Caricom, David Comissiong, says the peoples assemblies allow members of parliament to focus a bit more on national policy.
