More calls for legislation to allow people to donate organs like Kidneys after they have died.
Transplant Surgeon at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Dr. Margaret O’Shea says once this is done fewer Barbadians could be utilizing dialysis treatment in the future.
At present around 450 citizens receive treatment for Kidney problems.
According to Dr. O’Shea, significant savings and other benefits could be derived from kidney transplants.
She was speaking Wednesday evening while at the Rotary Club of Barbados’ donor awareness campaign.
President of the Rotary Club of Barbados Peter Williams says the donor awareness campaign is in line with his club’s quest to support local health initiatives.
