Labour Minister asked to mediate workers’ dispute

Labour Minister Colin Jordin is being asked to intervene in the dispute involving C O Williams Construction Company and its workers.

Talks between company officials and the workers representatives, the Barbados Workers Union, are scheduled to resume Wednesday morning at the Labour Department.

That’s the latest development after two days of protest action by more than 200 employees at the company.

They’re complaining about a lack of wage increases.

BWU representatives and officials from the company were called to a meeting at the Labour Department Tuesday, which started around 2 in the afternoon.

Sources close to the situation say that meeting ended just after six in the evening with the labour department seeking the intervention of the labour minister.
