The Ministry of Agriculture has over the last few days been looking at ways to secure the country’s food supply amid the threat of COVID-19.
Deputy Chief Agricultural Officer, Leslie Brereton, made the revelation during a workshop at the ministry’s headquarters in Graeme Hall, Christ Church.
The workshop featured a presentation on a value chain assessment
conducted on sweet potato in Barbados.
It’s hoped the findings will facilitate the increased production of the crop in its raw form, as well as other value chain products like fries, mash and porridge mix.
However, Senior Agricultural Officer, Michael James says there needs to be discussions between producers and processors about pricing.
