Transport Board Ensuring Safety Of Commuters

In light of Barbados recording its first two cases of COVID-19, Chief Executive Officer of the Transport Board, Fabian Wharton, is assuring the public that his organization is taking every possible measure to ensure the safety of commuters.

Speaking from the Weymouth headquarters, Mr. Wharton said: “We have been monitoring the situation across the region very closely and we are being very proactive in our approach to preparing for the inevitability of the virus. Precautionary measures have been taken and we have been educating the staff, particularly drivers, as it relates to good hygiene practices.”

Noting that the Board had taken an all hands on deck approach, Mr. Wharton continued: “We have also created a special team to increase the frequency of our sanitization efforts in the terminals and on the buses in keeping with global standards. Additionally, we are reviewing our operational processes and further information on imminent changes will be made public once ratified.”

Mr. Wharton also explained that these efforts would also be extended to vehicles currently in the Transport Augmentation Programme (TAP), and concluded by reiterating the Transport Board’s commitment to providing the safest possible service for Barbadians.
