Pride new champions after CWI aborts first class season

Barbados Pride have been declared champions of the domestic first class championship after Cricket West Indies on Tuesday decided to cancel the final two rounds of the tournament.

The regional governing body had last week suspended the championship for 30 days following the eighth round of matches, due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in the Caribbean.

Following a board of directors teleconference on Tuesday, however, a decision was taken to abort the competition and award leaders Pride the Headley/Weekes Trophy.

Pride, led by Test opener Kraigg Brathwaite, topped the standings on 134.8 points with Trinidad and Tobago Red Force second on 94.6 points.
