The Barbados Nurses’ Association is calling on the Government of Barbados to ensure nurses have sufficient resources and training to protect themselves while caring for coronavirus patients.
President, Joannah Waterman, says after discussions with management of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, the association is satisfied with the level of proactive planning to protect the hospital from known cases.
She however believes nursing staff at other facilities such as the Geriatric, District, and Psychiatric Hospitals, will also need to be considered for this training as COVID-19 transmission accelerates.
The BNA is also concerned about whether there will be enough personal protective equipment and resources, should the country advance to stage three.
The Nurses Association is also calling on the authorities to consider what will happen if we were to reach a stage where Nurses and other healthcare workers become infected.
