Unemployment claims to the National Insurance Scheme are continuing to climb as a result of the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The update from Minister in the Ministry of Finance, Ryan Straughn.
Speaking during debate on the Catastrophe Fund Bill 2020, he stressed that as of last Friday close to 43-thousand claims were submitted.
Mr Straughn reiterates that government through the Catastrophe Fund is moving to ensure Barbados has the space to respond in the event of a natural disaster.
Though the environment is challenging, he says government, despite criticism, has responded to ensure recovery.
