No political interference in Police appointment

A Government Senator maintains there was no political interference in the process of appointing a second Deputy Commissioner of Police.

This from Information Minister, Senator Lucille Moe as she piloted the Police Amendment Act 2020 through the Upper House on Wednesday.

In fact, she says a Police Service Commission, under the previous administration had already identified the individual, who is extremely competent and well respected, for the post.

Senator Moe says the amendment will allow what was the acting post to be formalized and allow duties to be reassigned to ensure the Force is better managed.
