An Eastern Airlines plane arriving from Miami, Florida skidded off the taxiway at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) on Wednesday afternoon.
According to reports, the incident occurred as the plane taxied after landing, leaving the landing gear stuck in the grass alongside the taxiway.
An official at CJIA said the incident could be attributed to pilot error, as the plane landed with ease on the extended runway.
There were just over 200 Guyanese onboard – all of whom were previously stranded in the United States .
There were no reports of injuries.
This is the first such incident for Eastern Airlines at CJIA since the airline has commenced operations.
The airline has regularly operated repatriation flights between Guyana and the United States in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
