Thousands of unemployment claims received

Government has received in excess of 55 thousand unemployment claims since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Word of this from Minister in the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Investment, and MP for St. Michael South Central, Marsha Caddle.

She made the revelation during the constituency’s Annual General Meeting last evening.

Minister Caddle says pay-outs have so far been made to more than 93 percent of eligible people.

But according to her, government realised there are people who contribute to the National Insurance Scheme, but were not eligible to claim unemployment because of their self-employed status and that’s why the Business Interruption Benefit was created.
