School to restart in September

The Ministry of Education has revealed that September 21 will be the date on which students return to the classroom.

This is according to a release signed by acting chief education officer Joy Adamson.

However, Ms. Adamson disclosed that those entering Sixth Form will have to wait on the return of results for CSEC and CAPE from the Caribbean Examinations Council.

The education official also announced that planning week for teachers will run from September 14 to 18 and encouraged principals to design and complete timetables as usual as adjustments can be made as necessary.

She added that the Ministry would continue to engage all stakeholders – teacher unions, parents, the Ministry of Health and Wellness and the Ministry of Labour and Social Partnership Relations – on the format for reopening of schools since there may still be a need for some form of physical distancing in September.

Ms. Adamson says all public health protocols will be adhered to in this respect.
