BLP disappointed with DLP debate position

The Barbados Labour Party is expressing disappointment that the Democratic Labour Party is opting not to participate in the televised St. George North by-election debates.

This was disclosed in a statement from Dwight Sutherland, who is the Campaign Manager for BLP nominee, Toni Moore.

Mr. Sutherland stressed that at a time when people are cautious and not coming out in as large numbers because of COVID, a streamed debate would have given an opportunity to all candidates to be seen by larger numbers of people.

He says it will have also allowed the candidates to be compared with each other and would put voters in the constituency in a better position to choose who they want to represent them.
President of the DLP, Verla dePeiza, had earlier stated that with just 45 days to prepare and  the campaign significantly truncated, the party decided instead to focus on the people of St. George North.
