Six new positive cases reported

Health authorities have diagnosed six new positive cases of COVID-19 in Barbados.

This is according to Senior Medical Officer Dr. Anton Best who notes that cases were diagnosed on Sunday.

He says these were the only positives – two women and four men – among the 819 tests conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory.

The results represent a mixture of locals and visitors.

Dr. Best says of the six new cases, two are male inmates from Her Majesty’s Prisons, Dodds.

The total number of cases at HMP Dodds is now 227 – 58 staff members and 169 inmates.

He says 10 people were discharged from isolation meaning that 478 people now remain in isolation.

To date, Barbados has recorded 884 confirmed cases – 368 females and 516 males.

Additionally, 399 persons have recovered from the viral illness.

The public health laboratory has completed 83,905 tests since March 2020.
