Christians in Barbados join with others across the world in marking the beginning of Lent today, Ash Wednesday.
Churches across the denominations start the season with Ash Wednesday Services at various times throughout the day, for what is considered one of the most important holy days in the liturgical calendar.
The St. Dominic’s Catholic Church was among the churches holding early Ash Wednesday service.
Those observing received ashes in the sign of a cross on their forehead, and will make a sacrifice for Lent, which will be observed until Easter.
During the season, Christians will observe a period of reflection, prayer and penance.
