The team in the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment working to get young people off the ‘blocks’ has received electronic devices from a local business to support its field work.

Formally known as the Youth Development Programme’s Block Committee, the team works with young people on the ‘blocks’ in communities across Barbados, and introduces them to various programmes and training opportunities.

Recently, Manager/Owner Mr. Stefan Sherry of Fashionation Inc, an apparel and accessories store in Barbados, presented three tablets with external memory devices to the Block Committee at the Ministry’s Sky Mall offices, in Haggatt Hall, St. Michael.

In presenting the tablets to Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, Mr. Charles Griffith, Mr. Sherry stated that providing the tablets was his way of giving back to people in the community and Barbados, and he understood the value of people getting assistance.

He noted that the Ministry’s efforts would certainly help many young people, who may not know where to go to get information, or what is available to them.

In his response, Minister Griffith lauded Mr. Sherry for his generous donation, which he noted was very timely, as the Block Committee would now be more efficient in its collection of information to assist young men and women eager to improve their skills.

The Minister added that the tablets would allow the team to register people on the spot for programmes that they were interested in.

The tablets will carry registration and contact forms for the Ministry’s suite of services, as well as other services, including the Barbados Construction Training Initiative and other national programmes.

Also present at the presentation were members of the Youth Development Programme’s Block Committee, Marcus Stephen, Kirk Prescod and Kashera Corbin, who eagerly welcomed the tablets, saying they would immediately assist their work by removing physical paper applications and challenges that come with working outdoors.
