Many parents look forward to the day when they are blessed with a grandchild.
Well, for one couple in India, the wait has been much too long as their only son’s 6 year long marriage has yet to produce any offspring.
Now, Sanjeev and Sadhana Prasad have decided to take legal action against their son and daughter-in-law for not giving them a grandchild.
Through the lawsuit, filed on grounds of “mental harassment”, they are demanding US$650,000 in compensation if a baby has not been born within a year.
The couple say they used up their savings to raise their son, also financing his pilot’s training, supporting him for 2 years after he lost his job and paying for a lavish wedding.
The Prasads say they arranged their son’s marriage with the hope of a grandchild to play with during retirement.
“My son has been married for six years but they are still not planning a baby,” Mr. Prasad said. “At least if we have a grandchild to spend time with, our pain will become bearable.”
The petition is expected be heard by a court on May 17th.
