(CNN) — New studies suggest the updated Covid vaccine boosters don’t offer better protection than the original boosters.
The United States Food and Drug Administration gave emergency use authorization for the updated boosters to Pfizer and Moderna in August.
They target the original coronavirus strain – which is no longer circulating – and two Omicron sub-variants.
The researchers compared the immune responses of people who got boosted by the original shot to those who got the updated, bivalent boosters about a month after the shot.
The immune responses looked about the same.
The studies were small. In total, only about 70 people were evaluated.
