December 6, 2022

Police are tonight appealing for the public’s assistance to help with their investigation of an apparent hit and run over the weekend.

A message has been in circulation on social media detailing the events of a young boy being struck by a vehicle, while in the Farmers, St. Thomas area, near Hillaby Turner’s Hall Primary School.

In the text purportedly written by a family member, the driver of the vehicle did not stop after striking the victim, who is in hospital receiving treatment for various injuries to his body.

When CBC News checked in with the Barbados Police Service, Police Communications and Public Affairs Officer, Acting Inspector Rodney Inniss confirmed the incident did take place on Saturday around 10:00 p.m., and they were notified yesterday.

Mr. Inniss also verified that the 12-year-old boy is receiving medical treatment and that police are currently piecing together the available evidence.

He has given the public the assurance they will make an official statement as soon as they have enough facts about the incident.

In the meantime, they are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have information about it, to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477 or call the nearest police station.
